Wayward Son is the stunning YA novel by the bestselling author of Fangirl, Rainbow Rowell. With all of her signature wit and heart, and gorgeous chapter head illustrations, this is Rainbow at her absolute best.
The story is supposed to be over.
Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after . . .
So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?
What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light . . .
That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West. They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place . . .
With Wayward Son, the sequel to Carry On, Rainbow Rowell has written a book for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And a book for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first.
Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over – but your life has just begun.
Rowell's magical world is finely drawn,
Thrilling and sexy, funny and shocking, deeply moving and very, very magical. Trust me, you have never, ever seen a wizard school like this. -- Lev Grossman, author of The Magicians

I feel cheated
It felt like there was so much missing in the book. Like it had be cut in half and thrown away. The main relationship felt so real before and although I knew there would be a lot of troubles it felt so hopeless that I’m actually kind of mad
3.5 - 4 Stars for this road trip that had wit, humour and so much sadness.
3.5-4 Stars Angsty teens being angsty That's not to belittle in any way but definitely the feel I got from this book, a lot of that came from Penelope. Though we definitely get it from Baz and Simon too. All of them are getting older and...
Fans will love, others may not be as moved
I went between three and four stars for this follow-up to Carry On. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I loved visiting the characters again, and seeing their lives after magic school, and after the resolution of the Big Prophecy that drove Simon's life until now. And...
I am in love
I love Simon. I love Baz. I love Penelope. I love Shepard. I love Ginger. I love water person. I love weird dragon lady. I love Micah. I love pixies. I love mages. I love vampires. I love fairies. I even love Lamb.Agatha’s tolerable.
Not enough Simon and Baz.
Simon and Penny are living together and Baz is always there but things aren't going well. A road trip to see Agatha in America is just what they all need or so they hoped but life is never that simple. I was expecting more for this and it didn't live up to Carry...
Read in one go!
Thank you Rainbow Rowell for writing this sequel! Is it too much to hope that there may be another one???? Pretty please!
Honestly loved it - more please!
I've loved both of the carry on books - you should have seen my face at the end as soon as I realised it's very likely that there'll be another one!!! Please don't let us wait too long though I must admit, in the first book I struggled to push past the harry...
The gang tour America
A wonderful follow up to Carry on. The gang are back but this time in America but this time we get to hear more from each of the characters which I enjoyed.
